The RESET Energy Standard is a data standard for continuous energy monitoring.
RESET Energy is designed to prioritize on-going results with a focus on the operational phase of a built environment. RESET Energy requires energy consumption data to be continuously gathered through energy meters.
Results are streamed to the cloud and can be viewed in real-time from any computer or mobile device, providing access to better understand how a building performs over time.

RESET Energy takes into consideration aspects including monitor performance, deployment, and installation requirements, as well as data reporting and data platform requirements.
RESET Energy's fundamental approach to data requirements can be divided into 3 parts:
RESET Energy standardizes the continuous monitoring requirements of energy consumption in built environments. Continuous monitoring brings to the forefront the carbon operating costs of the built environment and provides easier access to understanding how to leverage the faster feedback loops to improve efficiency.
The completeness of data verifies whether or not all the data is there and whether there is enough data to understand the state of energy consumption.
RESET is first and foremost a standard for data quality. Performance results are only as good as the data being assessed.
RESET addresses data quality at the source and specifies requirements for the monitors and the deployment methodology in a project. RESET also makes sure the data is trusted and relevant by requiring monitors to be installed in the right way and to have plans for long term maintenance. Lastly, RESET sets requirements for how the data is reported and connected to guarantee transparency and access via analysis and reporting.

RESET Energy is performance-based, but does not set any performance targets.
Instead, RESET Energy will leverage the RESET Leaderboard, where projects will be benchmarked anonymously against each other with the goal of highlighting projects that excel so other projects can learn more about the solutions and services they leverage.
The RESET Energy Standard is available for free. It is a great reference for any project that wants to set up continuous monitoring for energy.

The intent of the RESET Energy Standard is:
With a focus on the collecting of data via continuous monitoring, the RESET Energy Standard can be easily applied to either new or existing buildings.
The RESET Energy Standard is applicable to two different project typologies, Commercial Interiors and Core & Shell, which have been separated to help tenants, operators, and owners achieve healthy performance targets by clearly defining and communicating their respective roles and responsibilities.
RESET Energy for Commercial Interiors (CI) is a performance-based standard targeting the energy consumption in interior spaces. It monitors, tracks, and communicates the energy used by the occupants of an interior space.
RESET Energy for Core & Shell (CS) is a performance-based standard targeting the energy consumption of public spaces and central systems in a building, including elevators, mechanical air systems, etc. It monitors, tracks, and communicates the energy consumption of the building spaces and systems that are managed by the building operator.
Data acquired from RESET Energy can overlay data collected from RESET Air to help balance energy consumption needs with other aspects of a space or building, including improved air quality.
On top of the RESET Energy Standard, a project can pursue RESET Energy Project Accreditation, which provides additional measures of trust via third party audits.
In order for a project to achieve RESET Energy Project Accreditation, energy consumption, as tracked through continuous monitoring and calculated into a daily average, must be maintained.
Note that there is no RESET Energy Project Certification because there will not be hard performance targets to hit for certification. Instead, RESET Energy Projects that are accredited will be added into the RESET Leaderboard for anonymous benchmarking.
RESET Energy Project Accreditation is a great way to market the actions being taken by a built environment towards sustainability and carbon reduction.
The RESET Energy Standard includes Special Targets' Certificates that can be awarded to project teams that fulfill the requirements:
Achieved operating carbon neutrality with the help of externally financed offsets. Note that this is not total operating carbon as we have not included other factors such as water and waste.
Achieved operating carbon neutrality without externally financed offsets, leveraging only internally or locally generated renewable energy. Note that this is not total operating carbon as we have not included other factors such as water and waste.

RESET Energy is currently in development, with plans to release the draft and enter peer review and piloting phases in 2021. Target date for official release will be in 2022.
