The Red List

for the RESET® Embodied Health Standard

The Red List contains seventeen classes of harmful and polluting chemicals considered to be the worst in class in the building industry. Each chemical class contains a multitude of individual chemicals, identified by their Chemical Abstract Services Registry Number, or CASRN. Taken together, these classes comprise over twelve thousand individual ingredients. Developed by the International Living Future Institute, the Red List is a resource to show manufacturers and project teams precisely which ingredients are prohibited from inclusion in the built environment.

The Red List is used by the RESET Embodied Health Standard.

The Red List includes the chemicals below:

  • Alkylphenols and Related Compounds
  • Antimicrobials
  • Asbestos and Related Compounds
  • Bisphenol A (BPA) and Structural Analogues
  • California Banned Solvents
  • Chlorinated Polymers, including PVC, PVDC, Chloroprene (Neoprene Monomer) and CPVC
  • Chlorobenzenes
  • Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs)
